The United Kingdom announced it will help Abu Dhabi
build its zero-emissions Masdar City.

Masdar City is the emirate's project to create a zero-carbon, zero-waste and
car-free city.

More than 100 U.K. companies and academic institutions led by U.K. Trade and
Investment will host a partnership summit to work with officials from the Masdar team.

Masdar City is expected to be finished by 2016 and eventually will be home to
50,000 residents and 1,500 businesses.

A number of U.K. companies already are involved, including BP, Shell,
Rolls-Royce, WSP Group, Imperial College and Forster and Partners.
During a recent visit of U.K. government officials to the Gulf, Prime Minister
Gordon Brown signed a memorandum of understanding to work together.
